Preparing Your Walls
Section 3 : Wall Preparation
Measure the height and width of the wall(s) to check how many rolls of wallpaper are needed and cross check with the number of available wallpaper. Check the condition of the wall and see if the wall is suitable for wallpaper installation.
If there are existing wallpapers on the wall, be sure to remove the wallpapers before installing new wallpapers. Take care in removing wall decorations prior to removing the wallpapers.
Scrape off falling paint before repairing with stopper. If the paint is not scraped off, it will affect the adhesiveness of the new wallpaper onto the wall because the wallpaper would be attached onto the falling paint (which is no longer adhered onto the wall. It will cause the new wallpaper to have patches that are not adhered).
After the falling paints are scraped off. There will be slight unevenness on the wall due to missing patches of paint. These patches should be repaired with stopper prior to installation, to avoid the unevenness being shown through the wallpapers.
Rough areas of the wall can be sanded with a sanding block to ensure a smooth surface, especially for plain and bright wallpapers.
Apply primer on wall to improve adhesion for wallpaper.
